Anhedonist/Netherwards/Dark Descent Records/2012 CD Review

Anhedonist  are  a  band  from  Seattle,  Washington  that  plays  a  very  heavy  and  brutal  form  of  doom/death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "Netherwards"  which  was  released  by  Dark  Descent  Records.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  thrown  in  at  times, while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to them.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  the  heaviest,  most  brutal  and  darkest  elements  of  doom  and  death  metal  together  with  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  primitive  sounding  doom/death  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  which  are  only  used  on  the  last  song  they  use  finger  picking  to  enhance  the  darkness  of  the  music.

Vocals  are  all  deep  death  metal  growls  with  some  high  pitched  screams  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing  chants,  while  the  lyrics  cover  very  dark  themes,  as for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  heavy  and  powerful  sound  to  it  which  is  perfect  for  the  songs  which  are  very  long  and  epic  length.

In  mu  opinion  Anhedonist  are  a  very  great  sounding  heavy  and  brutal  doom/death  metal  band  and if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  style,  you  should c heck  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Saturnine"  and  "Inherit  Opprobrium".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
